Karen's Hope Ataxia Benefit

Karen Frigstad

Karen was diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) in April of 1999. The diagnosis came only after many tests to try to determine the cause of a hand tremor and some gait imbalance. After the diagnosis, Karen and her family became involved with the Bob Allison Ataxia Research Center (BAARC) at the University of Minnesota to be proactive in the fight against Ataxia.

The success of the Karen's Hope Ataxia Benefit immediately caught the attention of the Board of Directors at BAARC. In the fall of 2003, they asked Karen to become a board member. She was excited to be offered the opportunity to work with BAARC on the frontlines of funding Ataxia research at the U of M.

Karen lives in Rosemount, Minnesota with her husband Todd and 8-year-old twin daughters, Anna and Julie, and Jack who will be six this summer. Karen and Todd take part in Ataxia events throughout the year, including The Diamond Awards in addition to organizing Karen's Hope.
