Karen's Hope Ataxia Benefit

Ataxia Research Progress

Since 2004, BAARC has allocated over $1 million in start-up monies to help University of Minnesota researchers in the exploratory studies of Ataxia. This initial seed money was leveraged to secure basic science projects and clinical research grants of more than $6 Million from the National Institute of Health.

BAARC has just recently awarded the following grants for 2008.

These grants, awarded to the following recipients, include proceeds from the Karen’s Hope Ataxia Benefit:

  • Michael D. Koob $75,000
Towards gene therapy of Friedreich's ataxia

  • Dr. Ramaiah Muthyal $75,000
Development of Novel Therapeutics for Spinocerebellar Ataxia-1

  • Dr. Laura Ranum $75,000
Role of spectrin and interacting proteins in sporadic and familial ataxia

Today BAARC plans to continue to advance both laboratory and clinical patient research and to begin exploring new therapies and treatments for Ataxia.

Your support of the Karen's Hope Ataxia Benefit directly funds research that is focused on finding a cure for Ataxia. Thank you.
